Is Puppy yoga real yoga?

As an animal lover I've found a way to combine my love of yoga and animals.

I've held Goat yoga and recently Puppy yoga.

But is it really yoga? Or just a gimmick?

I will admit trying to "still the mind" is harder with marauding puppies chewing on your fingers or toes and tugging on clothing.

But there are many forms of meditation and it is scientifically proven that patting a dog releases the feel good hormone oxytocin. And I challenge anyone to not laugh at the antics of baby goats.

It can be argued that what we now deem yoga is a far cry from the original practise 5000 years ago!

The meaning of yoga is "yoke" or "union", and is in essence physical, mental and spiritual practices, which aims to control (yoke) and still the mind.

So whilst not a silent or still meditation, is not the same thing achieved? Where the mind is distracted from it's sufferings and some lightness and happiness attained?

If I can bring someone some peace and joy, as well as expose them to the benefits of yoga, so that they may consider joining a more traditional yoga class, then I will continue to offer Goat and Puppy yoga.

What are your experiences and thoughts on alternative forms of yoga?

Be free to live your best life
