I'm a yoga teacher and I'm not flexible!

Although I love to share anything that I feel is good for you, I was hesitant to do teacher training as I am not a very flexible person.

I have gotten better, but I have come to the reluctant acceptance that I will never place my chest on the ground in upavistha konasana!

And before I get bombarded with "with enough practice you can" etc, trust me, I have practiced and enrolled in those intense online sessions that promise you can do the splits in two weeks etc, to no avail.

Without getting my hips xrayed to prove it, I don't think physically I'm designed for it.

Anyway, I digress!

What my lack of flexibility gives me is the empathy for the majority of people who feel they can't do yoga!

Most days as I start my practice I can barely touch my toes in a forward fold, but by the end I've definitely loosened up and feel so much better, physically and mentally.

And whilst at the beginning I often feel frustration at my lack of "progress," I genuinely am grateful for what my body can do and marvel at how "bad" I'd feel without the practice.

Unfortunately we have been bombarded by the insta-yoga photos of people doing incredible poses (which I admire immensely) but for the majority of people who are either not naturally flexible and or don't have the time to devote to regular practice, this can seem unattainable ... "So why bother?"

We've forgotten that yoga asana is essentially about being able to sit comfortably to allow us to meditate.

We've forgotten the connection between body and breath.

We've forgotten the mind benefits of a moving meditation.

So please give yoga a go - find a YouTube channel that appeals or a local teacher whose practice resonates with you.

Yoga is like finding your favourite coffee shop; if you don't like the taste of one, keep going till you find one that you do.

If you're in Tamworth feel free to join me.

Be free to live your best life
